Where to go in West Sumatra? Choices are abundance, mostly natural tourism objects as lakes, beaches, mountains and small islands while cultural sites are also vary.
Let’s start from the capital, Padang, by knowing closer into Minangkabau culture as well as Mentawai and Nias tribes in Adityawarman Museum, later visiting the busiest harbor in western Sumatra through looking at the activities of Teluk Bayur Port. Sikuai Island off the coast of Padang is one of the favorites, too.
Pagaruyung Palace of the old kingdom with traditional Minangkabau architecture of Gadang House is nearby Anai Valley and Lake Singkarak in Tanah Datar region. Lake Maninjau, second largest lake in Sumatra is refreshing for its blueish and green surrounding, not far from the city of Bukittinggi, where Tower of Gadang Clock and Sianok Canyon stands.
Mentawai Islands and Siberut Island are surfers’ top destinations, offering you nice beaches and unforgettable sunrise/sunset views, same experiences that tourists will get when visiting Carocok Beach in Painan Bay in southern Padang.
